Sunday, March 19 - Van Horn, TX to Fort Davis, TX

Van Horn to Ft Davis, TX today. We started the day at 28 degrees. We just aren’t prepared for these temperatures. When you pack for an almost two-month trip you never expect that along the southern border you will ride in 28-degree weather. I don’t even do that at home. I stay inside. So, we put on everything we owned and rode. The wind picked up by 10am and we again rode in 18 mile an hour headwind. It is a tough ask to ride 80 miles when all you can do is a 10 mile an hour avg. against the wind. We climbed up to 6000 ft over the first 60 miles. Along the way we would get in the van at rest stops to warm up. Feet and fingers were numb. We did see lots of pecan trees, great plains, cows, and one Prada Store. Yes a Prada exhibit (art piece) in Marfa, TX. You have to Google it to get the back story. Out on this plain is this standalone Prada store. Not really a store, just an art exhibit. I didn’t take many pictures today other than when we stopped because to take a picture you have to take off gloves and clothes to get to the phone and operate it. Glad the day is over whew! We are at the Hotel Limpia tonight which is very old in style and substance and would appear to be something from the 1800s. Cool in its own way. We ate well tonight and tomorrow is a rest day!
