Wednesday, April 6 - Ville Platte, LA to St. Francisville, LA (Crossed the Mississippi River)

Ville Platte to St Francisville Louisiana. Century day of sorts. Some of us decided to do the optional 100 miles today (we aren’t smart. Ha). Anyway, we started off the day finding a lucky green tree frog, so we knew it was going to be a good day. At mile 38 we hit our first big bridge. It was a 6 mile long causeway. It was a 4 lane bridge, two lanes in each direction with no shoulder. A bit unnerving but we made it across with traffic whizzing by at 60 miles an hour. We then meandered through the country on nice roads with some wind assist and some counter. It got hot later in the afternoon, in the high 80s. We made it to the last and largest bridge today, the Audubon bridge over the Mississippi River. We stopped on top of the bridge to take a picture of a barge going under the bridge. Soon after we started riding again, I hit a piece of glass and it cut a gash into my tire so we had to change the tube and put a piece of plastic inside the tire so I could get back to the hotel. The fourth flat of the trip. We made it back and on the way to the hotel we stopped at Sonic and got a milk shake. It made the day! Tonight, I tried Crayfish Etouffee at the restaurant near the hotel. It was good.
